Ẹ kaabo · You Are Welcome
The home of amala
& abula in London.
Buka-style Nigerian cooking on Beckton Road, Canning Town.
Walk-ins welcome.
Start Here
You probably haven’t had abula. Yet.
Abula is three things on one plate. Amala, a soft, smooth swallow made from yam flour. Gbegiri, a beans soup, golden and silky. Ewedu, a deep green soup made from jute leaves. Poured together, eaten together. That’s abula.
It comes from the south-west of Nigeria, the food of Yoruba homes and the buka kitchens of Ibadan and Lagos. We cook it the way it has always been cooked: slow, from scratch, with the pepper base ground fresh every morning. No shortcuts.

Our Story
Cooked the way it has
always deserved to be.
Chef Taiwo Adeyemi grew up between Ibadan and Lagos, learning to cook in his grandmother’s kitchen on Lagos Island. In 2019, he opened Alata on Beckton Road. No fine dining pretence. No fusion for the sake of it. Just buka food, cooked properly.
